My name is Barry Matthews, and I am a University lecturer in Paramedic Practice.  I completed my BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Genetics at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in 2007 and went on to join the  Ambulance Service in 2008, I left as a Paramedic in September 2016 to move into Higher Education.  During this time I also completed my MSc in Conservation Biology with Zoo Studies ad my DipHE in Paramedic Practice.  I have now started my EdD Professional Doctorate in Education at the University of Bolton looking at Digital Literacy in academia.  I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Liason for the College of Paramedics.  Since becoming a lecturer I have also completed a PGCert in Teaching in Higher Education, gaining a Fellowship with Advance HE and a Learning and Teaching SOLSTICE Fellowship.

My academic interests lie in Technology Enhanced Learning and Digital Technologies, but I also assist with simulation and the integration of technology into high-fidelity simulation.  My research interests are observational learning, TEL, digital technology in learning, immersive simulation, international collaboration and paramedic practice.  I am always interested in new collaborative ideas, so if you want to chat about something please send me an email.
